IT + AI concentration, George Mason University

Akil Gurram

I'm into

IT major focused on AI and cybersecurity. I founded a security community that grew to 3,000 members, shipped tools used by thousands of people a day, and I am after a career building intelligent, secure systems.

01 / What I do

Three things I keep coming back to

A

Artificial intelligence

Experimenting with agentic AI and voice cloning to build tools that are smarter and more autonomous. It is the part of tech that feels wide open right now, and I want to build in it.

B

Cybersecurity

CTF competitions and security research, on both the offensive and defensive side. I have led teams, broken things on purpose, and this is where I want my career to go.

C

Building products

Full-stack and iOS apps that real people actually use, taken from a rough idea all the way to something shipped. I like the whole arc, not just one slice of it.

02 / Selected work

A few things I have built

The projects I am most proud of, from a live iOS app to the proxy and the community behind it.

WTM? What's The Move

A free iMessage app that helps friend groups stop texting "wyd" and actually make plans. You pick a vibe, eats, night out, activities, chill, or outdoors, or let AI decide, then get real venue suggestions nearby. Everyone RSVPs right inside the chat without downloading anything, and a reliability score keeps the flakes honest. Only the person making the plan needs it installed.

Tinf0il Go

A Chrome extension that takes the Tinf0il idea to the browser. It lifts restrictions on school and work devices by switching user agents, so you get a better browsing experience wherever you are. Built to be fast and simple, with a privacy-first promise that it never collects your data.

Tinf0il

A clean, fast proxy portal built on Scramjet with a libcurl transport, made so you can browse, play, stream, and work privately. It includes tab cloaking, a big catalog of games, and a streaming interface, and it grew to thousands of users a day at its peak. The project that started it all under Aluminum Depot.

Aluminum Depot

The organization behind Tinf0il. I founded it as a Discord community of curious people figuring out how locked-down school Windows machines really work, and how to work around them. It grew to 3,000 members at its peak, and running it taught me how to lead a team, ship tools people depend on, and build a culture around solving hard problems together.

03 / Experience & education

Where I am learning the craft

Software Developer

ZelusTech Glen Allen, VA

Built front-end and back-end features for a Human Resource Management system with TypeScript, Angular, the Spring Framework, Java, and MySQL on an Agile team. Reworked schema structures and optimized queries to cut page load time for employee lookups.

Student & Cyber Competitor

George Mason University Fairfax, VA

Pursuing a B.S. in Information Technology with a concentration in AI. Competing with the Mason Competitive Cyber Club, serving as PR Chair for my fraternity, and climbing with the Crux Climbing Club when I need to step away from the screen.
